Mr-Glass uses a proprietary 1-3/4 inch thick jamb on impact-rated units, which differs from the 1-5/8 inch standard used by PGT and CGI. This matters because a standard replacement jamb will leave a 1/8 inch reveal gap that voids the impact certification. We carry both OEM Mr-Glass jambs and a verified aftermarket equivalent from CWS that meets the same DP-50 rating, but we will not install the CWS part on an MG-Impact unit unless the homeowner signs a written acknowledgment that the warranty transfers to Sightline’s 365-Day Done Right Promise. For MG-Thermal and MG-Entry lines, the CWS jamb is functionally identical and saves roughly $340 on the installed price.

Signs Your Mr-Glass Door Installation Is Failing

• The door drags at the bottom corner. This usually means the composite sill cap has compressed or cracked, which happens faster in Miramar’s sun exposure than the manufacturer rates for. The cap is designed to flex, but once it loses its crown, water tracks underneath and the sub-sill starts to rot.
• The multipoint lock won’t throw all three bolts. The mechanism is housed in the edge of the door and connected to the handle through a steel spindle. In coastal Miramar, salt air corrodes the spindle first; the lock feels stiff, then snaps. A failed spindle means the door is latched at one point instead of three, which is a security issue and a failed impact test.
• You see daylight between the door and the jamb. This indicates the installation screws have backed out of the framing or the shims have crushed. Mr-Glass specifies #10 x 3-1/2 inch structural screws at 12-inch centers; anything shorter or spaced wider will loosen within five years in South Florida’s humidity cycles.
• The glass fogs between the panes. This is a seal failure, not an installation failure, but it matters because removing the glass to re-glaze it requires detaching the interior stop from the jamb. If the jamb was installed with nails instead of screws, the stop splinters and the whole installation needs replacement.
• The door swings open on its own or won’t stay at any angle. The hinge barrels have worn or the installation plumb is off. Mr-Glass uses a ball-bearing hinge that should last 50,000 cycles, but if the door was hung out of square during the original installation, the top hinge carries all the load and fails in three to five years.

DIY or Call Us?
